Every few months on the blog, we recap some of the new features and capabilities we’ve been working on. Here are some highlights from our recent product releases and how they can improve your experience using Own.

RECOVER (ALL ECOSYSTEMS)

Self-Service Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) and Bring Your Own Key Management System (BYOKMS)

BYOK/BYOKMS is a Recover security feature included as part of the Gov + plan, but also available individually as an add-on. We offer it to organizations who want an extra security layer and a hands-on approach to encryption, or to comply with heavily regulated industry standards or compliance issues.

With our recent release, we have enhanced our BYOK/BYOKMS capabilities to be completely self-serve. Now, customers are able to directly add, revoke, rotate keys, and follow the migration progress on the new key status bar.

Restore Counter

No matter how big or small the data loss, restoring data can be stressful. Recently, we released an enhancement into our restore jobs for data corruption cases that takes some of that stress out of a restore. The restore counter updates to reflect the number of records that have been manually updated or changed after the CSV or SQL has been uploaded, so that customers will know exactly which changes to expect after the restoration is complete.

RECOVER FOR SERVICENOW

Application Exclusions

Application Exclusions is a new feature we launched with Own Recover for ServiceNow. This feature allows users to exclude groups of tables at the application level, allowing you to select larger volumes of data to exclude and providing the ability to speed up the overall backup process without sacrificing data resiliency. Users can choose the applications to exclude in the Backup Exclusions Rules tab within their ServiceNow backup service.

SECURE

Security Insights - Digital Experiences

For years, Own has been blogging about potential misconfiguration vulnerabilities associated with Salesforce Digital Experience. Earlier this year, Krebs on Security reported that a large number of organizations from banks to healthcare companies were leaking private and sensitive information from their public Digital Experience Cloud.

To help customers address this, we released a new Security Insight within Own Secure that explicitly identifies it in your Salesforce org. With this update, we’ve made it even easier to understand who touches Digital Experiences. The profiles with digital experiences will be listed in the new security insight section, just like any other security insight. Also, thanks to a new section of that unique security insight called digital experience sharing, Secure customers will be able to see which risky areas they're sharing sensitive information and then address them in Salesforce.

Configurable Insight Scoring

The Security Insights module within Own Secure is intended to show customers the most critical areas to focus on so they can quickly improve their overall security posture in Salesforce. So, while we know these are the best lenses to consider, these scores are currently measured and calculated through a formula using default thresholds. And as we know, nothing about security is the default.

All organizations are different in how they think about and handle their security. We need to provide them with the tools to interpret and adjust their scores in a non-default way. Now, customers can view and understand what factors affect their scores and configure their insight scoring to the risk operating context of each of their Salesforce organizations. So when an analysis job runs, they can feel confident that the results are relevant and use that confidence to take the following steps to remediate and improve their security posture.

Field Exclusions in Platform Encryption Analyzer

Within Own Secure, the Platform Encryption Analyzer feature assists customers with the initial implementation and ongoing maintenance of Shield platform encryption in Salesforce. The tool allows users to create an encryption wishlist for sensitive data fields, initiating a platform encryption analysis to determine if the fields can be encrypted or if there are configuration restrictions.

With our recent release, administrators can manage security exceptions within the application, keeping track of excluded fields and their reasons over time. This includes details such as the date, time, user, and notes specifying why a field was excluded, providing transparency and allowing users to make informed decisions about encryption. The feature also allows for easy inclusion or exclusion of fields, enhancing administrators' flexibility and control in managing encryption in their Salesforce org.

DATA SEEDING

Accelerate for ServiceNow (New Product)

Currently, most ServiceNow customers depend on ServiceNow’s data cloning process to populate their sub-prod instances. The challenge with this process is that customers will commonly copy an entire production instance dataset and override existing sub-prod data, which can be disruptive and time-consuming. Accelerate for ServiceNow was built for ServiceNow developers who need a faster, more efficient way to seed test data from their production instances to their sub-production instances. Unlike the native data cloning tool, Accelerate allows you to easily instill data at granular table levels instead of cloning over entire instances and tables.

Scheduled Seeds

Since seeding data is one of the first steps before development, testing, or training, admins and developers must ramp up sandboxes quickly so projects and sprints can start on time. To do this, users often prepare their team's development environments during non-working hours to save expensive working time. Failure to do so can often create delays in a release cycle to seed relevant data.

With scheduled seeds, available for Salesforce and ServiceNow, customers can now schedule seeding jobs once or recurrently. Once a seeding job is started, it is added to its template's recent seeds list. So, for example, it’s Friday, and an admin wants to make sure their developer sandboxes have all the data they need for a sprint; they can schedule the seeding job over the weekend so that it's ready for developers on Monday morning.

ARCHIVE

Storage Analyzer

Knowing that you need to reduce your Salesforce storage is one thing, but knowing exactly what data to relocate/Archive is another. Archive’s Storage Analyzer is designed to expedite the process of creating archiving policies. Analyzing object storage usage and guiding you through the policy creation steps makes getting started with Archive easy. The feature provides valuable insights by displaying critical information on one screen, helping customers understand their storage consumption and visualize the impact of archiving policies.
