Own Company at Dreamforce 2021: Own Your Data. Own Your Destiny

Last week, Salesforce wrapped up their annual Dreamforce conference, the industry’s premier event that just keeps getting bigger and better. This year’s event was especially unique, as Salesforce brought live and on-demand content to Trailblazers around the world on Salesforce+, their all-new streaming service.

At Own, our goal this Dreamforce was to go beyond backup and help you protect and manage your data for development, archiving and compliance. Because when you own your data, you own your destiny. And since Own was a Titanium Dreamforce sponsor, we were lucky enough to have several team members in the crowd, while the rest of us tuned in from around the world.

Here are some highlights from our Dreamforce ‘21 experience.

Becoming a trusted enterprise includes trusting your data

The overarching theme of CEO Marc Benioff’s keynote, and the event itself, was the concept of “The Trusted Enterprise”; five pillars designed to help businesses earn the trust of their customers, employees, partners and communities. In his talk, Marc explained how trust is the foundation for success for any business.

How does this apply to Own, and SaaS data protection in general? As companies work to become a trusted enterprise, they must consider how that concept applies to their most valuable asset: their data. If you can’t trust that your data is accurate, reliable and accessible at all times, you can’t effectively leverage it for insights and action. And if your customers believe their data is at risk, they’ll lose trust in you just the same.

In “Backup and Recovery Trends: A Survey of 1,350 SaaS Customers,” Own’s Graham Russell and Demetrius Malbrough revealed the results of our recent State of SaaS Data Protection report, explaining why data loss is so pervasive, how data loss or corruption incidents disrupt business, and why having a third-party data protection solution is so important.

In, “Protect Yourself from 99% of Security & Data Loss Incidents,” Own’s Adrian Kunzle and Martina Yonushonis discussed how data is changing and why it's becoming more difficult to protect. They also explained why effective data protection requires close coordination across stakeholders, and provided viewers with a comprehensive playbook for managing continuity, security and compliance.

PayPal shouts out Own

One of the best things about Dreamforce is the opportunity it gives AppExchange partners to showcase their great solutions. In the session, “Grow Faster and Reach Further with Partners,” several customers talked about the Salesforce partners they rely on most. One of those customers, Daniel Torunian, Vice President of Employee Technology & Experiences at PayPal, gave Own a special shoutout:

“With Own, we’re saving time while protecting data. Our developers can set up and restore test data faster. They can restore non-production environments as needed and we can also anonymize sensitive data. All of this helps us reduce our operational risk.”

Reuniting with familiar faces

Since in-person attendance at Dreamforce was limited this year, we decided to host four watch parties — in New Jersey, Atlanta, London, and Paris — so all local Trailblazers could share the Dreamforce experience together. We got to connect in person with so many prospects, customers, partners and friends we haven’t seen in a long time, all while watching the Dreamforce keynote. Another epic demo jam

Salesforce events, and especially Dreamforce, have become known for their demo jams, where companies have three minutes or less to demo their solutions in a fun, engaging way. Although we didn’t win (well done, Copado!), one of the messages we received in the session chat more than made up for it when a user remarked, “Own has saved my career more than once.” We couldn’t have said it any better!

We won a Salesforce Partner Innovation Award!

For the past several years, Salesforce has kicked off Dreamforce week by announcing the winners of their coveted Partner Innovation awards. This year, Own was recognized with a Partner Innovation Award for Growth in the Trailblazer award category. Given all of our work and growth in the Salesforce ecosystem, we were honored to receive the award and kick off Dreamforce in such a terrific way.

Over $100,000 raised for a great cause

Last but certainly not least, we cohosted the Dreamforce Power Up Party with Salesforce, MuleSoft, Talkdesk, Infosys and Copado. The event was a huge success! Thanks to our partners, sponsors and guests, we raised over $100,000 for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
